Premier Massachusetts Mental Health Care

Serving Canton, Dedham & Beyond

Find a Therapist

Real support, close to home: therapy, psychiatric medication management, and MassHealth in-home services for people across Massachusetts.
Finding the right mental health provider shouldn't be another source of stress. At Abelard Psychotherapy, our clinicians meet you where you are — whether that means a weekly session at our Canton or Dedham office, a video visit from your couch, or a home visit for a child who qualifies for MassHealth's Children's Behavioral Health Initiative (CBHI). We treat anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, relationship strain, and the everyday overwhelm that brings people to therapy in the first place. Care is billed through insurance or offered as private pay, so cost doesn't have to be the reason you wait.

Every service below is offered in-person and by telehealth.

Outpatient Therapy & Psychiatric Care

Insurance or private pay — your choice
We're in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Harvard Pilgrim, Evernorth (Cigna), WellSense, Mass General Brigham, Optum, Tufts, MBHP, MassHealth, Commonwealth Care Alliance, Unicare, Medicare, and several other plans — our team verifies your specific benefits before your first appointment. If you'd rather not go through insurance at all, private pay is available too. Some clients choose self-pay for more scheduling flexibility, to keep a diagnosis off their insurance record, or simply because their plan isn't accepted here. Ask about current private-pay rates when you call to set up your intake.

Psychiatric Medication Management
If daily symptoms of anxiety, depression, ADHD, or a mood disorder haven't improved with therapy alone, our psychiatric nurse practitioner can evaluate whether medication might help. Visits start with a full psychiatric intake, followed by a plan you help shape — not one handed to you. From there, we track how you're doing, adjust as needed, and stay in your corner between appointments.

Individual, Couples & Family Therapy
Our Master's-level therapists work with adults, couples, and families facing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, major life changes, or conflict at home. Sessions are collaborative — you set the pace, and your therapist brings the clinical tools to match.

In-Home Therapy & Therapeutic Mentoring

Not every family can get to an office every week — and for kids and teens who need intensive support, therapy often works better delivered right where they live. Through MassHealth's Children's Behavioral Health Initiative (CBHI), we bring two connected services directly to your home for members age 20 and under: In-Home Therapy and Therapeutic Mentoring. Our in-home team speaks Russian, Spanish, Cantonese, Haitian Creole, Greek, & Arabic, so language is rarely a barrier to getting started.

Accepted MassHealth plans for these services: Fallon, MBHP, Mass General Brigham, Tufts, and WellSense.

In-Home Therapy (IHT)
A Master's-level clinician, supported by Therapeutic Training & Support (TTS) staff, starts with a detailed in-home assessment. From there, the team works alongside your whole family to ease conflict, rebuild communication, establish routines that actually stick, and link you to resources in your community.

Therapeutic Mentor (TM)
Once a therapist refers a young client, a Therapeutic Mentor steps in to work one-on-one on real-world skills: keeping friendships, handling school and peers, staying organized, speaking up for themselves, and calming down when emotions run high.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept my insurance, or can I pay out of pocket?
Most outpatient clients use insurance — we accept the major Massachusetts plans listed above and confirm your specific coverage before your first visit. If you'd rather not use insurance, private pay is available for outpatient therapy and medication management; ask us about current rates.

Is telehealth really the same as coming into the office?
For most clients, yes. Therapy and medication management sessions are available by secure video visit anywhere in Massachusetts, so you can keep your appointment even on a day you can't make it to Canton or Dedham in person.

Who qualifies for In-Home Therapy or Therapeutic Mentoring?
IHT and TM are MassHealth CBHI services for members age 20 and under. IHT can be requested directly; Therapeutic Mentoring typically starts with a referral from a treating therapist.

Do your clinicians speak languages other than English?
Yes. Between our outpatient and in-home teams, we offer care in Russian, Spanish, Cantonese, Haitian Creole, Greek, Arabic, Cape Verdean Creole, and Portuguese.

What are the advantages of choosing private pay (out-of-pocket) over insurance?
While we accept major Massachusetts insurance plans, choosing private pay offers several distinct benefits:
  1. * Enhanced Privacy & Confidentiality: When paying out of pocket, your clinical records and treatment details remain strictly between you and your provider—they are not shared with an insurance company.
  2. * No Required Mental Health Diagnosis: Insurance providers require a formal psychiatric diagnosis to cover services, which becomes part of your permanent medical record. Private pay allows you to seek support for personal growth, life transitions, or relationship challenges without requiring a formal clinical diagnosis.
  3. * Full Care Autonomy: You and your clinician control your treatment plan—including the frequency, duration, and type of therapy—without being restricted by insurance session limits or pre-authorization approvals.
  4. * Out-of-Network Reimbursement Option: If you have out-of-network benefits, we can provide an itemized receipt (Superbill) upon request for potential reimbursement from your insurer.

What does "Integrated Mental Health" mean, and how does it benefit my care?
Integrated mental health means your care is fully coordinated under one roof. Whether you need individual therapy, medication management, or specialized support, our multidisciplinary team collaborates directly to ensure your treatment plan is seamless, consistent, and personalized to your unique needs.

How do I know if I need therapy, medication management, or both?
During your initial intake assessment, our team will discuss your concerns, goals, and history to help determine the most effective path forward. Many clients benefit from combining therapy with medication management, and our integrated team simplifies receiving both without having to navigate separate practices.

Where are your physical offices located, and do I have to stick to one location?
We have physical offices in Canton and Dedham, Massachusetts. Depending on clinician availability and your scheduling preferences, you can choose the location most convenient for you or combine in-person visits with secure telehealth appointments across Massachusetts.

How quickly can I schedule an initial appointment?
We strive to minimize wait times and connect you with the right provider as quickly as possible. Once you contact our office or submit an intake request, our administrative team will verify your insurance coverage (or discuss private pay rates) and match you with an available clinician based on your specific needs and preferred location.
